Why are you related to the emo scene?
Gerard: It is an association of criticism, almost a theory. The theme is that we did when we started playing with many bands that are considered emo or screamo. I really do not think that we are a group emo, and although there are things that we like the scene, this relationship is almost a problem for us.
Mikey: In addition, the emo is dying.
Apart from the obvious ... What other influences can cite?
Gerard: There are many influences that are not equally obvious. For example, the Pixies are a great influence for us. Also Siouxie and the Banshees, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds ...
I think the influence of Cave is more related to the texts with music ...
Gerard: Do Oh, yeah? That is good and I also think so, because I try to write songs in the manner that makes Nick Cave, trying to be honest and fictitious at the same time, telling stories. Echo in this lack, especially in the emo scene. There are many stories in the emo, just talking about broken hearts.
Your songs refer to the dark side of life and I've read that acts as a therapy ...
Gerard: There really is something that ... if something affects me, songs and after I touched again and again, week after week, I used to feel better, I feel much happier.
Ray: Not only are the texts, also the music. I think our music is like a roller coaster, you know, up and down. The themes are written in this way, depending on our mood, with everyone playing.
Is there a single composer or is a team effort?
Ray: Usually Gerard arrives with a vocal melody, or a guitar rif mine or Frank, and then touch everyone. There has been no situation where someone has to say to another what to do. The parties are repeated over and over again so that everyone can get what you have in your head, but it all stems from an initial idea that everyone can listen and develop.
Gerard: The melody is almost more important than the letter itself, a little more. Humans and animals are responding to stimuli. Sometimes listening to a melody that makes you feel something apart from the letter, and then only magnifies the text.
Ray: The melodies are like the icing on the cake in a song. It's like in the themes of The Carpenters. The melodies are very good, but then the letters ... Whenever the melody is what you hitch in the first place.
Mikey: Sometimes not even need lyrics. There is instrumental music whose melodies and excite you alone.
Matt Pelissier was the original drummer and a founding member of the band. Why will no longer play with you?
Gerard: It was our colleague and we do not like much about it because we respect those who want. It simply was not working properly, the situation professionally and emotionally not worked. - Bob Bryar, the new battery is incredible, has been adjusted perfectly to the banda, if we bear in mind also that the material had already been composed in advance. It is not easy to find a good battery, most are trying to highlight over the group when its role is much more important to another level.
Have you played in Spain before?
Ray: Yes, we were also two years ago in Barcelona and Madrid. The audience is incredible, his response was really spectacular.
And to finish ... Have you experienced some Spanish music?
Gerard: Let's see, let me think about it ... No, the truth is that I do not know anything. Like you could recommend something ..
